The journey
From the Himalayas to
Sheikh Zayed Road
I trained in the classical Himalayan tradition, and later took my postgraduate diploma at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya in Haridwar. In that tradition, yoga was never a class on a timetable. The teacher looked at the student — their build, their digestion, their sleep, their temperament — and gave them the practice their nature required. That was the whole method. Nobody received the same thing.
When I came to Dubai and began teaching, something troubled me. The studios were beautiful. The teachers were sincere. And every single one of them was handing the same sequence to every person in the room.
Students would tell me they had tried yoga and it had not worked for them. They were wrong. Yoga had not failed them. They had simply been given someone else's practice.
I saw it week after week. The exhausted executive given a sweaty power class. The overheated perfectionist pushed harder. People with genuinely different constitutions, all doing the same thing, and most of them quietly concluding the fault was theirs.
It took years to build the answer properly — to map every class we teach to the constitution it actually serves, and to create an assessment precise enough to tell a student which is theirs. That is what Yoga by Dosha is. Not a new style of yoga. The oldest idea in yoga, returned to where it belongs.
We are, as far as we know, the only studio in Dubai that does this. I hope we are not the last.
